NIH Weekly Funding Opportunities and Policy Notices

Wednesday, October 11, 2023 - 11:21pm
Funding Opportunity PAR-24-028 from the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts. This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) invites qualified academic or research institutions to apply for funding support to purchase latest equipment that will enhance and modernize research-supporting operations of existing shared biomedical research facilities. Targeted are laboratory research core facilities, animal research facilities, and other similar shared-use research spaces. The goal of this NOFO is to strengthen research-auxiliary activities of biomedical research facilities and to enhance the efficiency of their operations. The NOFO does not support the purchase of scientific research instruments or their components, nor components of building-level infrastructure equipment that indirectly support research activities.

Funding Opportunity RFA-DK-23-004 from the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts. This Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) welcomes applications for the Consortium on Modeling Autoimmune Diabetes (CMAD) that supports the development of in vitro and in vivo models of type 1 diabetes (T1D) to enable studies of human T1D pathophysiology and to serve as platforms for preclinical assessments of new T1D interventions. CMAD is part of the Human Islet Research Network (HIRN).

Funding Opportunity PAR-24-047 from the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts. Through this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to accelerate the pace of translation of NCI-supported methods/assays/technologies (referred to as "assays") to the clinic. Specifically, the focus of this NOFO is on the adaption and clinical validation of molecular/cellular/imaging markers (referred to as "markers" r "biomarkers") for cancer detection, diagnosis, prognosis, monitoring, and prediction of response in treatment, as well as markers for cancer control and prevention. Research applications may support the acquisition of well-annotated specimens from NCI-supported or other clinical trials or observational cohorts/consortia for the purpose of clinical validation of the assay. Research projects proposed for this NOFO encourage multi-disciplinary interaction among scientific investigators, assay developers, clinicians, statisticians, and clinical laboratory staff. Clinical laboratory scientist(s) and statistical experts are highly encouraged to comprise integral parts of the application. This NOFO is not intended to support early-stage development of technology or the conduct of clinical trials, but rather the adaption and validation of assays to the point where they could be integrated into clinical trials as investigational assays/tools/devices.

Funding Opportunity RFA-AI-23-057 from the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts. The purpose of this Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) is to support research to better understand the impact of host and viral heterogeneity on pathogenesis of disease, viral persistence and immunopathology of Hepatitis B (HBV) and inform cure strategies for HBV in people living with HIV (PLWH). Applicants will establish multidisciplinary teams that span the clinical and basic/translational research arenas and establish an observational cohort to accelerate discovery and increase clinical impact.

Funding Opportunity PAR-23-308 from the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts. This funding opportunity seeks to support the Comprehensive Partnerships to Advance Cancer Health Equity (CPACHE) Program. The CPACHE Program develops and maintains comprehensive, long-term, and mutually beneficial partnerships between institutions serving underserved health disparity populations and underrepresented students (ISUPSs) and NCI-designated Cancer Centers (CCs). The program aims to achieve a stronger national cancer program and address challenges in cancer and cancer disparities research, education, and outreach, as well as cancer's impact on underserved populations. The institutions in each partnership are expected to work collaboratively to: (1) increase the cancer research and cancer research education capacity of the ISUPSs; (2) promote the diversity of the cancer research workforce; (3) improve the effectiveness of CCs in developing and sustaining research programs focused on cancer health disparities and increase the number of investigators and students conducting cancer health disparities research; and (4) develop and implement cancer-related outreach and education initiatives that benefit the surrounding underserved communities.
