Funding Opportunity RFA-NS-19-012 from the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts. The National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) and National Institute on Aging (NIA) intend to publish a Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) to solicit applications for a large prospective clinical research study to determine the specific subsets of stroke events that predict cognitive impairment and dementia in post-stroke populations in the United States, including in health disparities populations, and what additional clinical factors and comorbidities along the AD/ADRD spectrum may causally synergize with stroke to result in (or prevent) cognitive impairment and dementia outcomes. The goals of this initiative are to determine the association between specific subsets of stroke events and subsequent cognitive impairment and dementia in post-stroke populations in the United States, including in health disparities populations; to identify additional clinical factors and comorbidities that may affect these associations; and to contribute to development and validation of clinical-trial ready diagnostic and progression biomarkers for post-stroke dementia. It is expected that the study design will also allow for determination of interrelationships (cross-sectional and longitudinal) among the stroke event, overall cerebrovascular and cardiovascular disease and risk factors (including sex, racial, and ethnic differences), dementia-relevant genetic variants (including ApoE) and mutations (e.g. in Notch 3) previously associated with Alzheimer's disease (e.g. APP, PS1, PS2, PICALM, CLU, TREM2), cognitive trajectories including decline and resistance to decline, as well as amyloid and tau biomarkers of Alzheimers pathology during life.

Funding Opportunity RFA-FD-19-003 from the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA)/ Center for Food and Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) is announcing its intention to receive and consider a single source application for the award of a cooperative agreement in fiscal year 2019 to the Illinois Institute of Technology to support the Institute for Food Safety and Health (IFSH). The purposes of this continued support are to: 1. Carry out multidisciplinary applied research projects on the safety of processed foods; on food processing and packaging technologies; on the impact of these processing strategies on the nutritional quality of food; and on laboratory method performance (including method validation) that address issues associated with FDA-regulated products and that are consistent with CFSAN's Science and Research Strategic Plan; 2. Maintain and facilitate the further development of the IFSH collaborative research program by leveraging resources among U.S. government agencies, universities (including other IIT components), and the food industry to achieve practical solutions to food safety and food processing issues; 3. Develop and implement outreach and communication programs with stakeholders to identify research needs and to facilitate the use of the information produced by the research program; and 4. Support the implementation of the FDA Food Safety Modernization Act through research, education, and outreach, with particular emphasis on the science behind preventive controls associated with manufacturing, processing, packing and holding of food.

Funding Opportunity PAR-19-185 from the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts. The NIH Research Education Program (R25) supports research education activities in the mission areas of the NIH. The over-arching goal of this NHGRI R25 program is to support educational activities that support advanced level courses that are intended to disseminate new knowledge, techniques, methods, and analyses related to the mission of the NHGRI. To accomplish the stated over-arching goal, this FOA will support creative educational activities with a primary focus on Courses for Skills Development.
