The University of Arizona Steele Children’s Research Center has received $125,000 from the Arizona Elks Major Projects.
Pat Riley, Arizona Elks Association vice president west, and his wife, Carol, from Elks Lodge No. 476 in Yuma, presented the check to UA Steele Center director Fayez K. Ghishan, MD, on June 9.
The Yuma Elks lodge was the first in the state in total funds raised last year.
Since 1992, Arizona Elks lodges across Arizona have raised nearly $6.6 million for the UA Steele Center. They have supported basic science research, the purchase of vital research lab equipment, seed grants, public education, conferences, resident education, pediatric clinic renovation, expanding the UA Steele Center to Phoenix, and established two endowed chairs.
“I’m so grateful for the Elks’ 25 years of continued support to help us improve children’s health,” said Dr. Ghishan. “It’s incredibly inspiring to see Elks lodges from all over Arizona working diligently and enthusiastically support us through raffles, fundraisers and other special events.”
The Elks also have donated countless toys and handmade blankets, beanies and booties for premature babies and young patients hospitalized at Banner – Diamond Children’s, Dr. Ghishan added. “Our partnership with the Arizona Elks is truly priceless.”
